MANIPULATION OF THE MEDIA

A form of manipulation which is prevalent in today's climate is how as a society we are being manipulated by media outlets. The media's main objective should be to report the facts, but as it becomes harder to sale traditional newspapers and outlets move to online resources The priority has changed to getting the most clicks on an article in order to make the most money. The idea of media manipulation is very relevant in 2020, as with the Corona virus outbreak and US presidential elections the media has had an important role to play and how much we know about these topics, overall making this an interesting theme to explore. 

During my initial research into media manipulation I found that one of the main problems with today's media is the reporting of so called ‘Fake News’. This is when the person writing an article either exaggerates evidence or knowingly lies about it. these articles can be extremely misleading or even, depending on the topic, dangerous. Well carrying out artist research two artists that stood out where Hugh Mendes and Robert Rauschenberg. Various of collage to explore current affairs was interesting to me as it links to the theme of Manipulation by the media.
